Luau

Last night we had a luau party at the church. Despite Mark not being able to come with us, the kids did really well with just me, and actually listened to me the whole night. I had some wonderful help from the members though in keeping track of them, and getting their food.  Before the party though, we made some awesome "grass" skirts.
We measured their waists, and cut some elastic to fit. Then I made a casing in the fabric for the elastic. Once we had the elastic threaded through, I used the rolling cutter to cut the fabric into strips. Voila, grass skirts on the cheap! We used fabric I had laying around, so besides money for the elastic (and at 59cents/yard it was a score), these were virtually free. The Princesses loved wearing them, and had a blast at the luau.
Their favorite part was the pinata. Someone else was taking pics of the whole party, and I know he got some of the girls. I just need to see if I can get those from him now. I'm positive there's a really good one of Princess C whacking the pinata, and one of Princess R with her bag of gathered candy.

Playing with Colors

Princess C and I have been playing with colors the last two weeks. We did some color mixing, coloring, and color sorting.

Our first experiment was making some marbled milk.  We found this over at Surviving A Teachers Salary

This one I found on pinterest, from Create Studio.  We put water in plastic ziploc bags, then added the primary colors (1 per bag). Then we got to experiment putting the bags over each other to make the different colors.

This is one of the pages we did from her preschool book. After coloing the food, we sorted it by color into "shopping carts".

Princess V's Aunt Day

Yesterday Aunt M and Aunt A came and took Princess V out for her Aunt day. I love that they're taking my girls out separately each month for some aunt bonding time. Growing up we lived next to my aunt and uncle. I have so many fond memories of doing stuff with them....trips to D.C., the Swan Boats, just hanging out at their house!  Now my girls have aunts who are creating some memories with them!

They picked Princess V up at 11 am yesterday morning and went to see the new Disney Movie "The Secret World of Arrietty".  Has anyone else seen this yet?  I really want to, but the rest of us will have to wait until it's in the dollar theater. Check out this trailer though, if you haven't seen or heard of it yet (or if you're like me and just like to watch it over and over again, lol)

Then they ate a picnic lunch at the mall food court and let Princess V lead them around the mall window shopping. They ended their fun day with a banana split.

Princess V didn't really tell me much of what they did. I did overhear her telling her sisters about the orphan movie though, lol.
While she was out having her day, we had King Dad home since it was Presidents Day. We took Princess C and Princess R grocery shopping. Princess C got to spend her birthday money from Nana and Opah. She picked out a marshmallow Hello Kitty, and some skittles. Then she shared both with Princess R.

For FHE last night we talked to the Princesses about the proper way to hold a baby, and got them all excited to have a baby brother. We also narrowed down our middle name selection to two names....we're still trying to decide.

Toddler Talk Thursday - Princess C's Birthday

"Parenting Toddlers" "Toddler Advice" "Toddler Meme"

This week on Toddler Talk thursday it's a Freebie! So I get to talk about whatever I want - Toddler related.
Today just so happens to be Princess C's birthday. Really she's no longer my toddler. I can't believe she's 4 years old! 4 years ago today I was giving birth to her, and holding her for the very first time. Just a little bundle of joy. Her platinum blonde hair had every nurse oo-ing and ahh-ing over her, wondering where she got such gorgeous hair. King and I both had hair just like hers as children, but we both turned brown over time. I'm glad Princess C still has her blonde locks, but the probability of them staying is slim.
Meeting my Princess C for the first time, overcome with joy.
Princess C at 1 year old.

At 2 years old. This look is one I see often on her face still as she concentrates on something fun!

At 3 Princess developed quite the girly personality. She loved dressing up, and being with Daddy. Every where we go, she wants to give people hugs and kisss - even pure strangers. I don't think we'll let her date until her twenties or later....

Now at 4 years old, I can't wait to see what she has in store for us. She loves learning so much, and we both have a blast learning new stuff while Princess V is at school. I'm not sure I'm ready for my Princess C to start preschool in the fall.  She is ready though. Every day we drop off Princess V, Princess C gets in line and tried to sneak into the classroom.

Mixing Colors with Princess C

Princess V was up sick last night. So this morning while she vegged out on the couch with some "Avatar: the last airbender", Princess C and I got some quality time to learn about mixing colors.
She had a lot of fun, and I did too. I had her guess what the two colors would make. She was really amazed when blue and yellow made green instead of red, lol. She knew that blue and red would mke purple though. Every girl has to know how to make purple, right?
I think I'm going to go pinterest some more color mixing activities now.  Make it our theme for the week.

St George Vacation

This weekend we took off to sunny St George utah, for a music educators conference. We went last year, and had so much fun just being away from the home, we decided to go again this year. King Dad gets to network, while the Princesses and I get to relax without worrying about laundry, dishes and other daily tasks.
Here's a look at some of our fun.

After an early check in to our hotel room, and a quick nap by mom and Princess R, we headed to a park for some lunch and SUN! The Princesses had so much fun, and hardly touched any of their lunch.
At one point Princess V was playing with a little boy about her age. She was Jasmine, and he was Aladdin. Awe! It was very cute.

Next we hit up the Dinosaur museum. Sadly I didn't get any pictures here, but they had lots of fun. If you ever have the chance to go, I recommend it. For me personally it's so cool to see the fossilized dinosaur tracks. They also have a small childrens area where the kids made some dinosaur rubbings, played with toy dinosaurs and put together dinosaur puzzles.

We headed back to the hotel at this point, where Princess V took a nap. Princess C and Princess R enjoyed some sister bonding...
Yes, in the closet, with a bowl of popcorn. Why? I don't know. From what I could tell though, Princess C was a dog, and Princess R was the owner.

When King Dad finished his conference-ing for the day we attempted the "heated" pool, but the cool night air was just a little too cool for our swimming pleasure. Princess V and I picked up some McDonald's, and we enjoyed dinner in our room with a little Avatar and book reading.

Saturday was just as relaxing. We slept in, and had a breakfast of cereal in our room while watching cartoons. After checking out we headed to the local art museum. I knew I couldn't get my kids too interested in the displayed art, but again they have a kids area, where the Princesses got to do some water coloring, cutting, and gluing.

After this art fun, we headed to my friends house. The kids got to make new friends, and I got some real live grown up chat (Thanks Juli!!!). We then headed back to the Conference center for another picnic, and to pick up Kind Dad. I was hoping we'd have time to hit up the Utah Wildlife Museum(also next to the conference center), but by the time the Princesses finished eating, we turned around and King Dad was there!
We thought it would be better to just get on the road and get home.
We made one stop to pick some things up from Great Grandpa's, and then got home.

Toddler Talk - Water Pictures

Toddler Talk is back! I've been looking forward to this, as it helps give me things to write about, and reminisce.

This weeks topic is to share our favorite water pictures.
This first one is close to 3 years ago when both Princess V and Princess C were considered toddlers. We wanted some indoor water fun, and we had a big enough shower, so we stuck the pool inside, and turned on the shower. It was so much fun!

This next was this last summer at Nana and Opah's house. Princess C is on the right with Cousin A to the left.
