New Castle

It has been a long time coming, but Moving week is finally here!  We've really tried hard to include the Princess' in every aspect of finding and purchasing a new home.  We took them to every house showing (although stressful, I think was great for them!), talked it up, and asked their opinions on every house we considered.  Of course Princess C liked them all, and Princess V was opinionated.  She liked a lot, and there were some it was a flat no.
When we found this house I asked Princess V if she liked it.  Her response was "ummm, Yeah!".  Definitely a good sign.  I think a good factor was one wall is pink, one is purple, and she gets to have her very own room.  Really isn't that every little girls dream?  We refer to the home as our new Castle, and it has caused tons of excitement in our home.
Well today is the day.  We sign papers this afternoon and get keys tomorrow.  It was really quite a coincidence that we're moving this week, and it happens to be our letter M week.  We'll have lots to talk about.  Posting on here, may be a little sparse during this time, but it doesn't mean we're not still continuously learning in everything we do!

Nursemaid's Elbow

Poor Princess C.  She periodically gets a condition known as Nursemaid's Elbow.  We first heard of it shortly after her first birthday.  We were trying to teach her to walk, when she suddenly just dropped to the floor and started crying.  It was fairly late at night so we assumed she was just tired and done with attempting to walk.  A couple hours later though, she was still crying.  King and I decided something more than just being tired was wrong, so we took her into the ER.  A few questions, a little twist of her arm, and she was all better.
Well, once again today (and it's happened many times in between), I grabbed her arm and *pop*, I knew I pulled her elbow out again. I really didn't want to make a trip to the ER if it wasn't needed, so I did just what I'd seen many doctors do.  A few seconds later and she was happy again, and eating a bowl of ice cream (thanks Liz!).
Despite how common I'm told it is, most people I talk to have not heard of this.  So here is a little run down from  kidshealth.org

About Nursemaid's Elbow

As parents, sometimes it's easy to forget that our active preschoolers — who run, climb, jump and quickly hop up after falling — aren't as rough and tumble as their older siblings. Kids this age are prone to nursemaid's elbow, a partially dislocated elbow joint. The medical term for this is called a "radial head subluxation."
Nursemaid's elbow, also known as pulled elbow, is a common mishap of early childhood. Kids 1 to 3 years old are most commonly affected, though infants and older kids can experience it, too.
The injury happens in younger kids because their ligaments (the elastic-like bands that hold bones together) are loose and bones are not yet fully formed. This makes it easier for some of the bones to slip in and out of place. As kids get older, however, their ligaments tighten, bones enlarge and harden, and the risk of nursemaid's elbow decreases.
While a child with nursemaid's elbow has some initial pain in the arm, the injury does not cause any long-term damage. At the doctor's office, or in the emergency room, a medical professional can slip the bone back into place, causing symptoms to go away quickly.

Happy St Patricks Day

We sure had fun yesterday.  I wanted to do more than I did, but thursdays are hard for me trying to get back into the swing of being home.  (plus our printer wasn't printing green).  We had green eggs and bacon for lunch (I told you I have a hard time on thursdays)

While Princess V and C were at dance, Princess R and I went to the library.  We picked up
Prince of Ireland and the Three Magic Stallions
 and
Leprechauns (Mysterious Encounters)

While Princess R napped, we had storytime.  Princess V loved learning about leprechauns.  It was really cute. Once King Daddy came home, we got ready and headed to a friends house for her annual St Patricks Day Party.

Lots and lots o' fun!

Ladybug Girl

I love trying to have a book for each letter we do.  This week, we chose Ladybug Girl by Jacky Davis and David Soman
Ladybug Girl

Lulu is a girl who loves to dress up.  Everything from a fairy princess to a tiger.  But her favorite thing to be is Ladybug Girl, because Ladybug Girl can do anything!  The book encourages pretend play and use of the imagination.  Princess C got this book from Nana for her birthday, and she loves it!

L is for Love

I love monday nights FHE! Since this week we're working on the letter L, I decided we'd have a simple lesson on Love.  It was wonderful.  We read 1 John 4:11  "Beloved, if God so loved us, we ought also to love one another." Then we sang Love One Another from the Children's Song Book.  For the lesson, I just had us go around in a circle and say one thing we loved about each member of our family.  It was lots of fun, and actually made me a little teary.  I love my family so much, and feel so blessed to have a wonderful husband and 3 beautiful girls.  Here is a summary of what they all love

Princess V
  • Loves when Daddy takes her to the park
  • Loves teaching Princess R new things like walking and dancing.
  • Loves playing with Princess C.
  • Loves helping mommy.

Princess C
  • Loves Daddy
  • Loves Mommy
  • Loves Princess V
  • Loves Princess R

K is for Kitchen

Letter K:

Kitchen!  I really wanted to get better at our lessons.  So I was giving this a lot of thought last night.  We started letter K last week, but all we did was look at it, and practice writing it.  Princess V has gotten very good at her letter K, but only when she really focuses (I could use some focus ideas).  So back to last night.  I was sitting up late with my mom, she was doing schoolwork, I was thinking about the letter K.  I turned to her and asked her if she had to give a lesson on the letter K, what theme would she pick (my mom is a 1st grade teacher, so she does actually give lessons on the letter K).  Her quick response was kitchen.  AH-HA! I had my idea!

Welcome to the kitchen, a place covered now in labels!
Princess C had fun running around the kitchen labeling.  Princess V caught me by surprise when she already knew the word chair and table.  Thank you Magic Moments Preschool! Princess V told me they have the table and chair labeled there too.  Proud mommy moment!

Dr Seuss

Yesterday was Dr Seuss' Birthday.  (It was also King Daddy's birthday).  To celebrate we read a new Dr Seuss book.  Not new new, but a book I had never read before.  I was pleasantly surprised when I came across this book.  I really thought I had read all of the Dr Seuss books, but I was wrong.  Since we're also working on the letter K this week, it fit in perfectly.  What book am I talking about?
 The King's Stilts (Classic Seuss)
It was long, so a little hard for the Princess' to focus the whole time, but I enjoyed it.  I felt it had a good lesson about balancing our lives.  If we work all the time, and never allow ourselves to relax and have fun, balance will be thrown, and we will not be happy.  I'm sure the Princess' pulled that lesson out of there...ok probably not at their age, but this book is definitely one to read again.
